Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and safety-conscious Overhead "Sheet Lift" Crane Operator to join our steel yard in South Houston. In this role, you will be responsible for operating overhead cranes and other heavy equipment to efficiently move, load, and unload materials within industrial, warehouse, or construction environments. Your expertise will ensure the safe handling of materials, adherence to safety protocols, and smooth workflow operations. Responsibilities
- Operate overhead "sheet lift" cranes safely and efficiently to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment across various work sites.
- Perform routine inspections of crane machinery and rigging equipment to ensure optimal functioning and compliance with safety standards.
- Coordinate with team members to plan lifting operations, ensuring proper rigging techniques are applied for secure loads.
- Assist with materials handling tasks including loading and unloading trucks, shipping & receiving activities, and warehouse organization.
- Maintain detailed logs of crane operations, inspections, and maintenance activities for accountability and safety compliance.
- Follow all safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation, rigging, and construction site protocols.
- Support other heavy equipment operations such as backhoe, excavator, forklift, boom truck, or other construction machinery as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven 5 years or more experience operating overhead "sheet lift" cranes in industrial or construction environments.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of crane systems, rigging techniques, and heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance checks on cranes and related machinery.
- Valid certifications for crane operation; additional certifications in forklift or boom truck operation are a plus.
- Experience with materials handling, shipping & receiving processes, and warehouse procedures.
- Construction site experience with familiarity in rigging, backhoe operation, excavator use, or general heavy equipment handling.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
